Anderson County is a county located in East Central Kansas, in the Central United States. Its county seat and most populous city is Garnett. [2] As of the 2020 census, the county population was 7,836. [1] The county was named for Joseph C. Anderson, a Kansas territorial legislator and border ruffian during the "Bleeding Kansas" era.

It enters the state from Oklahoma south of Chetopa and passes through Parsons, Ottawa, Oswego, Moran, Garnett, and Lawrence. The route leaves Kansas for Missouri by crossing the Missouri River at Atchison. The Anderson County Courthouse, located at 4th and Oak Streets in Garnett, serves as the seat of government for Anderson County, Kansas. The courthouse was built from 1901 to 1902 by contractors Latimer & Benning, the building cost $75,000. The courthouse was designed by George P. Washburn designed the courthouse in the Romanesque Revival style.
