Jul 22, 2019. #1. I was listening to some Kiss Alive and Destoyer this weekend. I love the tones Ace was able to pull out of his Les Pauls. It's such a classic formula, Les Paul with Dimarzio Super Distortions into a cranked Marshall. The SD doesn't sound like an overly aggressive pickup. It sounds rather clean actually.

Ace Frehley 10,000 Volts If I had to guess Steve Brown plays most of the rhythms, and had Ace lay down fills and leads. And hey, that's OK as that is pretty much what Frehley's Comet did with Tod and Ace. 10,000 Volts - man I hated this on first listen but it's grown on me, it's catchy.
Although Ace Frehley was originally credited for lead guitar on the studio tracks, the remastered version released in 1997 confirmed what had been speculated by Kiss fans for years - Bob Kulick actually played lead guitar on three tracks ("All American Man", "Rockin' In The U.S.A." and "Larger Than Life"), not Frehley.
If you listen to a lot of music today and since the 70s when Ace Frehley was still with Kiss, you hear a lot of music with power chords and solos based on pentatonic scales. Much less than the chord inversions and substitutes that George used and his melodic patterns of soloing.

If Ace Frehley uses the same techniques that nearly every other hard rock 70's guitarist used, and many of those hard rock 70's artists actually sold much more than Kiss, then why should we assume that Ace is the reason that a lot of guitarists use power chords and pentatonic scales?
