The governor of Jharkhand is the nominal head of the Indian state of Jharkhand. [1] The governor is appointed by the president of India.Though all official affairs of the state are administered and carried out in the name of the governor, the real executive power rests with the chief minister who is a member of the legislative assembly and is the leader of the majority party in the house.

The Government of Jharkhand also known as the State Government of Jharkhand, or locally as State Government, is the supreme governing authority of the Indian state of Jharkhand and its 24 districts. It consists of an executive , led by the Governor of Jharkhand , a judiciary and a legislative branch.
The governor is de jure head of the state government; all its executive actions are taken in the governor's name. However, the governor must act on the advice of the popularly elected council of ministers , headed by the chief minister , which thus holds de facto executive authority at the state-level.
The governor appoints the chief minister, whose council of ministers are collectively responsible to the assembly. Given the confidence of the assembly, the chief minister's term is for five years and is subject to no term limits. [1] Seven people have served as the state's chief minister since Jharkhand's formation on 15 November 2000. [2]
The BJP was in power in the Jharkhand Government for most of her six-year tenure as a governor and was also in power in the Union Government throughout her tenure. [24] She administered the oath of office to Hemant Soren as Chief Minister of Jharkhand in 2019. Her six-year tenure as Governor began in May 2015 and ended in July 2021. [18]
