The late 18th century Fort Zoutman is one of the town's main attractions and the oldest structure on Aruba. It is regarded by UNESCO as a 'Place of Memory of the Slave Trade Route in the Latin Caribbean'. The present Chapel of Alto Vista was completed in 1952 and stands in the same location as the original chapel, which was built by Domingo Silvestre, the Venezuelan missionary from Santa Ana de Coro, Venezuela, in 1750.
