Moura is a rural town and locality in the Shire of Banana in Central Queensland, Australia. [2] [3] It services the surrounding coal mining and rural activities.It is situated approximately 65 kilometres (40 mi) west of Biloela on the Dawson Highway, 186 kilometres (116 mi) west of the port city of Gladstone, and 171 kilometres (106 mi) south west of Rockhampton.
The Dawson coal mine is an open-cut coal mine south-east of Moura in Central Queensland, Australia. The mine includes three mining areas; Dawson North, Dawson Central and Dawson South that share common infrastructure.

In 1961 a new coal mine (now known as the Dawson mine) was opened south-east of the town of Moura. Initially coal was loaded at a siding at Kianga, 15 km south of Moura. In 1963 a 12 km line was built from Moura to the new mine. At that time the most powerful steam locomotive owned by QR known as the Beyer-Garratt could haul a 750-ton coal load.

In 1968 the Moura Short Line was opened to transport coal from the Callide and Moura mines to Gladstone port. [3] The line crosses the Callide branch line between Jambin and Callide at Earlsfield Junction and thus links Biloela with Gladstone in lieu of its previous link to Rockhampton.
The Goonyella railway system is located in Central Queensland, Australia.It services the coal mining area of the Bowen Basin, carrying coal to the Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminals 20 km southeast of Mackay, as well as products to other destinations by way of connections to the North Coast Line at Yukan and the Central Line at Burngrove via the Gregory coal mine branch.
