Fox River Mills, Inc., is a sock manufacturer based in Osage, Iowa. The company was founded in 1900. [ 1 ] In 1992, they purchased the Nelson Knitting Company of Rockford, Illinois , and in the process acquired the trademark on the Red Heel socks used to make sock monkeys . [ 2 ]
The site was built by the Riverside Cotton Mills, which were later called Dan River Inc. Most of the industrial buildings date from the 1880s through the 1910s. Rather than hiring local residents who were mostly black, the company exclusively recruited rural white workers. The complex was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
From 1939 to 1968, except for a period of service in the U.S. Navy during World War II era, he was associated with Dan River Mills (present day Dan River, Inc.), the textile industry that operated a mill on the Dan River. He advanced through the ranks of the textile business to become assistant to the chairman of the board at Dan River Mills.
