The 2024 Manchester City Council elections took place on 2 May 2024, alongside the 2024 Greater Manchester mayoral election and other local elections across England. There were 33 of the 96 seats on Manchester City Council up for election, being the usual third of the seats plus a by-election in Didsbury East ward.
Didsbury East is an area and electoral ward of Manchester, England. [2] It is represented in Westminster by Jeff Smith MP for Manchester Withington . [ 3 ] The 2011 Census recorded a population of 14,333.
From 1974 until 1986 the council was a lower-tier authority, with upper-tier functions provided by the Greater Manchester County Council. The county council was abolished in 1986 and its functions passed to Greater Manchester's ten borough councils, including Manchester City Council, with some services provided through joint committees. [14]
2018–2024: The City of Manchester wards of Burnage (part), Chorlton (part), Chorlton Park (part), Didsbury East, Didsbury West, Old Moat, and Withington. Following a local government review of ward boundaries which became effective from May 2018, the contents of the constituency were adjusted, but this did not affect its boundaries. [6]
