Joanne Dru (born Joan Letitia LaCock; [1] January 31, 1922 – September 10, 1996) [2] was an American film and television actress, known for such films as Red River, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, All the King's Men, and Wagon Master.
Hell on Frisco Bay is a 1956 American CinemaScope film noir crime film directed by Frank Tuttle and starring Alan Ladd, Edward G. Robinson and Joanne Dru. [2] It was made for Ladd's own production company, Jaguar. The film featured an early Hollywood appearance by Australian actor Rod Taylor.
Released by Columbia Pictures on November 8, 1949, the film received widespread acclaim from critics, and was a commercial success. At the 22nd Academy Awards the film was nominated for seven Oscars and won three; Best Picture , Best Actor for Crawford, and Best Supporting Actress for McCambridge, making an impressive film debut.
