L'Austral is a cruise ship operated by the French cruise line company Compagnie du Ponant.It is the sister vessel of Le Boréal and Le Soléal, being the same weight, length and breadth, along with having 132 cabins and suites for 264 passengers and 140 crew members like the other two ships.
Completed in 2010, she is a sister vessel of L'Austral, Le Lyrial and Le Soléal. Le Boreal entered service on 6 May 2010. [2] Between 25 February and 6 March 2018, video journalist and podcaster Brady Haran conducted an expedition to Antarctica aboard this vessel. [3]
An entire deck of the ship is devoted solely to suites, some of which larger than those on the vessel's three older sister ships. Even Le Lyrial ' s lowest-category Superior Stateroom is 21 m 2 (230 sq ft) in area; Deluxe Staterooms have an area of 19 m 2 (200 sq ft) and a 4 m 2 (43 sq ft) balcony.
Le Jacques Cartier is the sixth ship of the Ponant Explorers class of cruise ships operated by Ponant. Each member of the class has been allocated the name of a famous French explorer. As of that date, the ship was operated by the Ponant Company under the branding Paul Gauguin Cruises, [6] The capacity was stated to be 318 guests plus a crew of 216. The ship had been modified to use a "cleaner" fuel — low-sulphur marine gas oil (LS-MGO) — and the company planned "to offset 150 percent of its carbon emissions".
