Delta Sigma Theta (ΔΣΘ), an international historically Black sorority, was founded on January 13, 1913, at Howard University.It has more than 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Liberia, Bermuda, Jamaica, The Bahamas, South Korea and Nigeria.
The Delta Chapter was founded by Elder Watson Diggs in 1915. The Delta Chapter was the last Chapter chartered under the fraternity's original name, Kappa Alpha Nu, and the first chapter designated after the fraternity's name change to Kappa Alpha Psi. On January 13, 1913, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated was founded by twenty-two women at Howard University. [5] [6] Some of the founders were former members of Alpha Kappa Alpha who wanted to change the sorority's name, color, symbols and direction.
Delta Sigma Epsilon was a national collegiate social sorority founded at Miami University, operating in the United States from 1914 to 1956. [1] [2] [3] The sorority was absorbed by Delta Zeta sorority on August 21, 1956.
