In 1952, Sieben returned home and rejoined the Minnesota Army National Guard. In April 1956, Sieben was assigned as superintendent, Minnesota Military Academy, State OCS. [ 13 ] Minnesota became the seventh state in the US to inaugurate its own military academy. [ 14 ]
In 1974, Dempsey served as an assistant principal at Hastings Junior High School (later renamed Hastings Middle School) until his retirement from education in 1993. He was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1992 and served seven terms, from 1993 until 2006. He was a member of the Republican Party.
Sieben was born in Hastings, Minnesota to a family active in both government and military service. Hastings has Minnesota's second-oldest surviving county courthouse (after Washington County Courthouse, Stillwater), finished in 1871 at a cost of $63,000. The county administration began moving to a new facility in 1974, and in 1989 the City of Hastings purchased the old building. It was rededicated in 1993 as City Hall.
