In Canada, the term "engineering society" sometimes refers to organizations of engineering students as opposed to professional societies of engineers. The UMST began as a private, non-profit making educational Academy, in Khartoum, Sudan in 1996. UMST was established by Professor Mamoun Homeida former vice-chancellor at the University of Khartoum (and later Minister of Health for Khartoum State [4]). Homeida also recruited several faculty members from the University of Khartoum. [5]
