The 47th FIS Alpine World Ski Championships took place from 6 to 19 February 2023 in two neighboring locations in the French Alps, Courchevel and Méribel. The location was decided in May 2018 during the 51st FIS Congress in Costa Navarino (Greece), where Courchevel-Méribel won against Austrian Saalbach-Hinterglemm with 9 to 6 votes.
Twelve nations won medals in Alpine skiing, with Austria leading the medal table with eight (3 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze). Petra Kronberger of Austria led the individual medal table with two gold medals, while Alberto Tomba of Italy was the most successful male skier with two medals, one gold and one silver.
The fifth event, the combined, employs the downhill and slalom. The World Cup originally included only slalom, giant slalom, and downhill races. Combined events (calculated using results from selected downhill and slalom races) were included starting with the 1974–75 season, while the Super G was added for the 1982–83 season.
