The second channel, BT2, saw its emergence the following year. From 1975, the first video recordings using the 2-inch format were made. In 1977, a broadcasting and program archive was created. In 1983, recorders with one-inch tape were made. The end of the 2-inch era was in 1984. The year 1991 was very important for Bulgarian National Television.
Beforehand, BNT used to air sports events such as the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the London 2012 Olympics in HD on temporary HD channels which used to upscale the BNT 1 channel. In 2014, the national television decided to launch BNT HD as a fully scheduled channel. On 10 September 2018, the channel was re-branded as BNT 3.
The channel was launched on 2 May 1999 under the name "TV Bulgaria". The first program director of TV Bulgaria was Agnesa Vasileva. The channel began with the repetition of the best fund of the BNT, Bulgarian feature films and music programs. The music channel signal "Tell Me My Le White Cloud" was recorded specifically by Theodosius Spasov.
