The Backbone Trail is a long-distance trail extending 67.79 miles [1] (109.10 km) across the Santa Monica Mountains in the U.S. state of California.Its western terminus is Point Mugu State Park, and its eastern terminus is Will Rogers State Historic Park in Pacific Palisades.
The Mount Whitney Trail is a hiking trail that climbs Mount Whitney, the tallest peak in the contiguous United States. It starts at Whitney Portal, 13 miles (21 km) west of the town of Lone Pine, California. The hike is 21.4 mi (34.4 km) round trip, with an elevation gain of over 6,100 feet (1,860 m).
It is the only national forest in the state of California without a major paved road entering it. There are a variety of recreational opportunities — camping, hiking, mountain biking, paragliding, backpacking, boating, fishing, hunting, nature study, photography, and off-highway vehicle travel. Santiago Peak is the southern mountain of the Saddleback landform in Orange County and Riverside County, California. It is the highest and most prominent peak of both the Santa Ana Mountains and Orange County. The peak is named for Santiago Creek, which begins on its southwestern slope. [1]
In 1977 the California legislature passed a resolution directing California State Parks to conduct a study on acquiring Chino Hills land for park purposes. A local citizen group, Hills for Everyone, worked closely with California State Parks and the legislature to create the park with an initial acquisition of 2,237 acres (905 ha).
