Shine a Light is a 2008 concert film directed by Martin Scorsese documenting the Rolling Stones' 2006 Beacon Theatre performances during their A Bigger Bang Tour. [2] The film also includes archive footage from the band's career and makes use of digital cinematography for backstage sequences, the first time Scorsese used the technology in a film.
Stripped was well-received and reached No. 9 in the UK and the US, where it went platinum. The lead single, a cover of Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone", reached No. 12 in the UK, and became a rock radio hit in the US. It was followed by "Wild Horses" in early 1996. Stripped was the Rolling Stones' second album with Virgin Records.
"Shine a Light" first entered the Stones' setlist during the 1995 leg of the Voodoo Lounge Tour, and live performances of the song from this period were included on the 1995 album Stripped and its 2016 edition Totally Stripped. A live recording from July 1995 was included on the album Totally Stripped (2016), and a performance from the Stones' 2006 A Bigger Bang Tour appeared in the 2008 concert film, Shine a Light, and on the accompanying live album. On 20 May 2013, the song was performed in Los Angeles as part of the Stones' "50 & Counting Tour."
