The United States Office of Management and Budget [17] has designated Clearfield County as the DuBois, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area (μSA). As of the 2010 census [ 18 ] the micropolitan area ranked sixth most populous in the State of Pennsylvania and the 65th most populous in the United States, with a population of 81,642.
Clearfield is located near the center of Clearfield County along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. Clearfield Creek joins the West Branch 2 miles (3 km) to the east (downstream) of town. U.S. Route 322 passes through the borough, and Interstate 80 passes just to the north, with access from Exit 120 ( Pennsylvania Route 879 ).
Clearfield Township is located in eastern Butler County, along the Armstrong County border. It contains the unincorporated communities of Coyleville and Fenelton. U.S. Route 422 passes through the township, leading east to Kittanning and west to Butler.
