The school is built on an 86.06 acres (34.83 ha) area within Feldajaya Utara. In 2001, 2005, 2006, 2012 and 2016, MRSM Tun Ghafar Baba was listed as the best school for SPM level in Malaysia. [3] In conjunction to commemorate its 25th anniversary, MRSM Jasin was renamed as MRSM Tun Ghafar Baba on July 25, 2006 by the Minister of Entrepreneur & Cooperative Development, Dato Seri Mohamed Khaled Bin Nordin. However commencing from 1988, SMS Muar ceased the intake of Form 1 students. Since then, it accepted only Form 4 students. Although for a short and limited period of time from 1991 to 1994, it did receive Upper and Lower Sixth formers as well. SMS Muar has now resumed to accept intakes of the Form 1 students commencing from 2016 until to-date.
