At its center is the Putnam County Courthouse: the current courthouse, built in 1905, is the fourth building to occupy the site.
The district encompasses 79 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Greencastle. The district developed between about 1826 and 1961 and includes notable examples of Federal , Greek Revival , Italianate , Stick Style , Prairie School , and Bungalow / American Craftsman -style architecture.

The period of greatest significance of the barn was from 1914 to 1936. [4] The Haimbaugh barn is quite unusual and unique among Indiana examples.
