The original Baptist Memorial Hospital was a 2,000-bed medical facility and complex of multiple hospital buildings located at 899 Madison Avenue in midtown Memphis, Tennessee. The facility closed in 2000 after 88 years of service, and was demolished in 2005.
It was first founded in 1976 as NEA Medical Center. In 2007, it changed its name to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital and partnered with Baptist Memorial Health Care in Memphis. In 1886 it opened as the Missouri Baptist Sanitarium. In 1892, it offered ambulance service via horse and carriage. A Nursing Training School opened in 1895. [1] [2]
