After a year of operation, which saw the graduation of 60 women, the school was expanded to a two-year structure and renamed to Puntland Community College. In 2004, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program and USIU Nairobi, PCC was expanded to include four-year programs. It was also renamed Puntland State University (PSU).

Abaarso School was founded in 2009 by Jonathan Starr, an American former finance executive. [1] After donating half a million dollars of his own money, he gathered an international teaching staff. [2] Within six years, the school has sent over 60 of its students to elite prep schools and colleges, including Amherst, Georgetown, MIT and Harvard. [3]
It is the birth-place of Somalia's former anthem, Soomaaliyeey toosoo, which was composed by the teachers of Sheikh Secondary School. [1] The school accepted a mere 50 students each year for the 31 years (1958–89) before it was destroyed by the Siad Barre regime, admitting 1,550 people over three decades. [ 2 ]
