By 1872, a four story stone ladies’ boarding hall was constructed at a cost $16,000. On April 21, 1874, the name was changed to Ives Seminary after a benefactor, Willard Ives of Watertown, New York. Alumni include businessman and Wisconsin State Senator John Harris. The Ives Seminary continued in existence until at least 1891 or later.
Henry Keep was born on June 22, 1818, in Adams, New York, to Herman Chandler Keep and his wife, Dorothy (née Kent). [1] He had two sisters, Mary and Martha. [2] He was a descendant of John Keep, [3] and emigrant from the Kingdom of England who arrived in the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1660 [4] and was killed in 1676 during King Philip's War. [5]
