Bincho-tan (びんちょうタン, Binchō-tan) is a mascot character, created by Japanese manga artist Takahito Ekusa (江草天仁, Ekusa Takahito) and produced by game goods company Alchemist. The name is a play on words: binchōtan ( 備長炭 ) is a kind of charcoal , which is mainly used for cooking.
For the first 23 episodes the opening theme is YOU and the ending theme is TWO OF US both performed by Megumi Yuki. For the rest of the episodes the opening theme is Dang Dang ki ni naru and the ending theme is Line both performed by Yuma Nakamura. The series was followed by two TV specials that aired in 1992 and 1993.

Binchō-tan (Japanese: 備長炭, [biɲtɕoꜜːtaɴ]), also called white charcoal or binchō-zumi, is a type of high-quality charcoal traditionally used in Japanese cooking. Its use dates to the Edo period , when, during the Genroku era, a craftsman named Bichū-ya Chōzaemon ( 備中屋 長左衛門 ) began to produce it in Tanabe, Wakayama .

A manga adaptation with art by Suzuka Oda was serialized from 2016 to 2019. It was collected in five tankōbon volumes. Both the novel series and the manga are licensed in North America by Vertical. [3] An anime television series adaptation by Shaft aired from April 11 to June 27, 2021, on ABC and TV Asahi's Animazing!!! programming block.
These episodes are an adaptation of the drama CD, Tenchi Muyo! Special: Creation of the Universe Journey across Space-Time , with the exception of Ayeka's tale, which was created for episode 11. The latter tale was supposed to be on the aforementioned CD, but was cut out due to time constraints.
