Location of Zambia within Africa. The National Assembly is the unicameral legislature of Zambia, a landlocked country in southern Africa, east of Angola. [1] The seat of the assembly is at the capital of the country, Lusaka, and it is presided over by a Speaker and two deputy Speakers.
Of the 167 members of the National Assembly, 156 are elected by the first-past-the-post system in single-member constituencies, with a further eight appointed by the President and three others being ex-officio members: the Vice President, the Speaker and one deputy speakers (one elected from outside the National Assembly, while another is chosen among the elected members of the house).
