This was so named because it began with Chevrolet's V8 engines. Chevrolet big-block V8s; Chevrolet small-block V8s; GM Vortec 4300 90° V6; GM Iron Duke RWD inline 4 (early RWD Variants, later versions may use a FWD pattern, and have two possible starter locations) Jeep with GM Iron Duke inline 4 2.5L/151 in³ (1980-1983).
Since the engine was similar to the popular small-block Buick V8—now with a cast-iron block and displacement of 300 cu in (4.9 L), the engine was made cheaply at the same factory with much of the same tooling. This engine carried the RPO code KH for the 1964 model year and LH for 1965. In 1966, the code was MH and was renamed the Wildcat V-6.
There were a few different versions of the LT1. All feature a cast iron block, with aluminum heads in the Y- and F-bodies, and cast iron heads in the B- and D-bodies. Corvette blocks had four-bolt main caps, while most other blocks were two-bolt main caps. Block castings remained the same between 2 and 4 bolt mains.
These bore and stroke dimensions were later used by the 267 cu in (4.4 L) V8 Chevrolet engine. Also like the small block V8 engines, the 200 cu in (3.3 L) V6 used 2.45-inch (62.2 mm) main bearings and 2.1-inch (53.3 mm) rod bearing diameters. Being a 90° V6, Chevrolet took steps to eliminate the rough running tendencies of the 200.

The High Value engine family from General Motors is a group of cam-in-block or overhead valve V6 engines.These engines feature cast iron blocks and aluminum heads, and use the same 60° vee bank as the 60° V6 family they are based on, but the new 99 mm (3.90 in) bore required offsetting the bores by 1.5 mm (0.059 in) away from the engine center line.
