A number of residences - some still extant - were constructed in the "Old City" area of Farmington. By the mid-1840s, the village center shifted from Shiawassee Trail to Grand River. [2] The village grew rapidly from about 1850 to 1890, with the original Quaker influence gradually diminishing as new settlers moved in.
