Starting in 1843, Mississippi's delegation was increased to four seats, still elected at-large statewide on a general ticket. After 1847, those seats were elected by representative districts. After the 1850 census, Mississippi gained a 5th seat. For the 33rd Congress, that fifth seat was elected at-large.
