Ferris State University (FSU or Ferris) is a public university with its main campus in Big Rapids, Michigan, United States. It was founded in 1884 as Big Rapids Industrial School by Woodbridge N. Ferris and became a public institution in 1950.
The second period of reconstruction took place in 1987 when Ferris State, Grand Valley State, Saginaw Valley State, and Lake Superior State were all granted university status. The state has seven medical schools, [note 1] as well as five law schools [note 2] which are accredited by the American Bar Association. [3]
