Built in 1854, the house was built for James Harlan who served as the college's president from 1853 to 1855 and again from 1869 to 1870. [2] Harlan was president when the school's name was changed from Mt. Pleasant Collegiate Institute to Iowa Wesleyan University.

The Dr. J.O. and Catherine Ball House is a historic building located in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, United States.In 1892 this was one of three houses designed by George F. Barber's mail-order architectural firm that was being built in town, and it was the most elaborate of the three. [2]
