The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) is the governing body for high school sports in the U.S. state of California. CIF membership includes both public and private high schools. Unlike most other state organizations, instead, for some sports, the CIF's 10 Sections each have their own championships.
In 1965, the Section office built and moved into its third home and second devoted strictly to the CIF-SS day-to-day operations. That space was located next to Gahr High School on Artesia Blvd. in the city of Cerritos. That remained the home base of the section until October 2003 when the ever-expanding membership required a larger facility.
On January 5, 2012, the CIF-SS required Westlake's varsity boys' basketball team to forfeit a win over Agoura. The Marmonte League victory was ruled invalid due to the fact that Westlake's junior varsity coach, John Elliot, sat on the varsity bench after having been ejected in the preceding junior varsity game.
The Riverside Poly boys' basketball team is banned from competing in this year's playoffs and has been placed on probation for multiple violations of CIF rules.

The Foothill League is one of the earliest CIF-SS leagues in existence. Membership has historically included schools throughout Los Angeles County, including in the Santa Clarita Valley, Burbank, Glendale, and the San Gabriel Valley.
