Bear River City is a city in Box Elder County, Utah, United States. The population was 877 at the 2020 census, [4] up from the 2010 figure of 853. Bear River became a city under state law near the end of 2000. [5] Although current state law requires a minimum population of 1000 for cities, [6] Bear River City remains a city.
John C. Frémont explored the area in 1843, and the Mormon Trail crossed the Bear River south of Evanston. [15] The California and Oregon Trails followed the Bear River north out of Wyoming to Fort Hall in Idaho. [15] Some of the travelers on the trails chose to stay, populating the Bear River Valleys of Idaho and Utah.
