Timothy Christian Senior (born March 22, 1960) is an American Catholic prelate who has served as bishop of the Diocese of Harrisburg in Pennsylvania since 2023. He previously served as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania from 2009 to 2023, as well as rector and later chancellor of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Pennsylvania.
The Diocese of Harrisburg was established by Pope Pius IX on March 3, 1868. [4] St. Patrick's was named the pro-cathedral of the new diocese. Bishop John W. Shanahan proposed at a diocesan synod in 1902 that a permanent cathedral be built in the diocese.
On November 21, 1989, Dattilo was appointed the eighth bishop of the Diocese of Harrisburg by Pope John Paul II. [2] He received his episcopal consecration on January 26, 1990, from Archbishop Anthony Bevilacqua, with Bishops William Keeler and Donald Wuerl serving as co-consecrators, at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Harrisburg.
The interior of the new church was built inside the walls of the original structure, which were all that remained after the 1971 fire. There was a formal dedication of the newly constructed building in October 1974, officiated by The Most Rev. Joseph Thomas Daley, D.D., the Bishop of the Diocese of Harrisburg. [20]
