"Quagmire's Dad" is the 18th episode of the eighth season of the animated comedy series Family Guy. It originally aired on Fox in the United States on May 9, 2010. The episode features Quagmire after his father, Dan Quagmire, returns to the fictional city of Quahog and comes out as a trans woman.
His father, Dan, is introduced in the episode "Quagmire's Dad"; he is a naval veteran of the Vietnam War who has a sex reassignment and becomes a woman named Ida. Quagmire's sister, Brenda, is first seen in the episode "Jerome is the New Black" and is the subject of "Screams of Silence: The Story of Brenda Q".
Quagmire confronts Dan, and his father states that he has scheduled a sex change. The surgery is a success, and Dan emerges as "Ida." That night, Ida and Quagmire join the Griffins for dinner. Quagmire becomes frustrated when the conversation turns towards Ida's surgery, and suddenly storms out of the room.
"There isn’t a big change I would make," MacFarlane said of 2010's "Quagmire's Dad," which GLAAD once deemed "incredibly offensive to transgender people."
The voice for Glenn Quagmire is based on 1940s and 1950s radio commercials. [6] MacFarlane uses his own voice while portraying Brian. [2] MacFarlane also provides the voices for various other recurring and one-time only characters, including news anchor Tom Tucker, Lois' father Carter Pewterschmidt and Dr. Hartman. [7]
Crystal Quagmire (voiced by Alex Borstein in "Fore, Father" and Allison Janney in "Quagmire's Mom") is the mother of Glenn, Gary and Brenda Quagmire, the grandmother of Anna Lee and Courtney, and the wife of Dan. Her first appearance was in "Fore Father" where she is seen in a flashback breastfeeding Glenn.
