History [ edit ] According to the Encyclopedia of Chicago , in 1882 residents of a then-unincorporated portion of Proviso Township voted to establish their own municipality—called simply "Melrose" until 11 years later, in 1893, when the "Park" was added and population in the area began to steadily increase.
New boundaries were adopted in August 2001, with redistricting taking place following the 2000 United States Census. [3]In regards to townships and equivalent jurisdictions, the district's redistricted boundaries included portions of the city of Chicago, as well as portions of Bremen, Elk Grove, Lemont, Leyden, Lyons, Maine, Northfield, Orland, Palos, Proviso, Wheeling, and Worth townships.
The district, as redistricted in 2022 following the 2020 United States Census, continues to include portions of the city of Chicago and portions of Oak Park and Proviso Townships. [ 11 ] [ 12 ] Of these three divisions, the largest part of the district is in Oak Park Township. [ 13 ]
Proviso Township High Schools District 209 operates high schools, with Proviso East High School being located in Maywood. Emerson Elementary School is an elementary school in Maywood. Enrollment as of 2006 was 476 students. [20] The school teaches grades kindergarten through fifth grade.
Broadview is located in Proviso Township along the western edge of Cook County, at (41.859439, -87.854226 [ 4 ] According to the 2021 census gazetteer files, Broadview has a total area of 1.78 square miles (4.61 km 2 ), all land.
Northlake is a city in Leyden Township and Proviso Township, Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,840 at the 2020 census. The city's moniker is "The City of Friendly People". The name "Northlake" comes from two streets, North Avenue and Lake Street , which intersect on the city's West border.
