LuaJIT is a tracing just-in-time compiler. LuaJIT chooses loops and function calls as trace anchors to begin recording possible hot paths. Function calls will require twice as many invocations to begin recording as a loop. Once LuaJIT begins recording, all control flow, including jumps and calls, are inlined to form a linear trace.
Prism is a Microsoft emulator for ARM-powered Windows devices that translates the underlying code of software built for traditional x86 and x64 binaries from Windows 11 24H2 [4] ACL allows Android apps to natively execute on Tizen, webOS, or MeeGoo phones. [5] [6] [7] Alien Dalvik allows Android apps to run on MeeGo [8] and Meamo. [9]
ZeroBrane Studio is a lightweight open-source Lua IDE with code completion, syntax highlighting, code analyzer, live coding, and debugging support for Lua 5.1, Lua 5.2, Lua 5.3, Lua 5.4, LuaJIT, and other Lua engines.
Eyeon's Fusion compositor uses embedded Lua and LuaJIT for internal and external scripts and also plugin prototyping. In the videogame Factorio, Lua is used for creating mods and scenarios (expanding the game with scripting) Flame, a large and highly sophisticated piece of malware being used for cyber espionage. [8]
AOT compilers can perform complex and advanced code optimizations which in most cases of JITing will be considered much too costly. In contrast, AOT usually cannot perform some optimizations possible in JIT like runtime profile-guided optimization (PGO), pseudo-constant propagation, or indirect-virtual function inlining.
Side-by-side assembly (SxS, or WinSxS on Microsoft Windows) technology is a standard for executable files in Windows 98 Second Edition, Windows 2000, and later versions of Windows that attempts to alleviate problems (collectively known as "DLL Hell") that arise from the use of dynamic-link libraries (DLLs) in Microsoft Windows.
Streaming giant Netflix is breaking its silence on "Emilia Pérez" star Karla Sofía Gascón's racist social media posts amid the 2025 Oscars race.
The HX DOS Extender also uses the PE format for native DOS 32-bit binaries, and can execute some Windows binaries in DOS, thus acting like an equivalent of Wine for DOS. Mac OS X 10.5 has the ability to load and parse PE files, although it does not maintain binary compatibility with Windows. [10]
