The actual development of the area as a park was by the Works Progress Administration 1936–1937, [1] including construction of a limestone staircase leading from the base of the falls up to East River Parkway. [4] In the 1960s, redevelopment of the park resulted in four main areas: nature preserve, boat launch, picnic site, and scenic falls.
Crow Wing State Park offers 14 miles (23 km) of hiking trails, some of which are open to cross-country skiing or snowmobiling in winter. There is a campground with 61 sites and a camper cabin. There is also a group camp and a riverside campsite for canoeists. A boat ramp provides access to the rivers, with rental craft available.

Built in 1884 by Duncan Robertson in Grand Haven, the 96-foot wooden steam screw initially operated as a ferry on the Grand River before moving out to Lake Michigan. In 1908 she burned to the waterline in Sault Ste. Marie. Rebuilt as a fish tug in 1911. Sank off Two Harbors in January 1924, damaged by ice. She currently lies in 305-feet of water.

Sakatah Lake State Park is an 842-acre (341 ha) state park of Minnesota, USA, on a natural widening of the Cannon River near the town of Waterville. The Dakota native to the area called it "Sakatah" which means "singing hills". To honor this native heritage, some of the trails in the park have been given Dakota names.
