The peak of a glacial horn will often outlast the arêtes on its flanks. [1] As the rock around it erodes, the horn gains in prominence. Eventually, a glacial horn will have near vertical faces on all sides. Horn Peak is set in the Sangre de Cristo Range, which is a subrange of the Rocky Mountains. It is the 14-highest summit in Custer County, [6] and can be seen from Highway 69 near the community of Westcliffe. The mountain is located in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness on land managed by San Isabel National Forest. [5]
