The Serpentine-Jarrahdale Road District was established on 8 August 1913 with the amalgamation of the Serpentine Road District (1894) and Jarrahdale Road District (1902). [ 2 ] [ 3 ] [ 4 ] On 1 July 1961, it became a Shire following the passage of the Local Government Act 1960 , which reformed all remaining road districts into shires.
Rob Coales (born 1975/1976) is an Australian politician and the current president of the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale since winning a landslide election victory in 2023, becoming the Shire's first directly-elected leader. [1] Coales is also a member of the Western Australian Police Force as a police sergeant. [2]
On 1 July 1977, its Byford Ward was abolished and transferred to the Shire of Serpentine–Jarrahdale. [4] On 1 July 1979 it became the Town of Armadale and on 16 November 1985 it assumed its current name when attained city status. [3] The City of Armadale maintains 615 km of roads and a little over 14 km² of parks and gardens.
Serpentine-Jarrahdale was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Western Australia from 2005 to 2008. The district was named for the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale , which in turn is named for the communities of Serpentine and Jarrahdale in Perth 's south-eastern hinterland.

The Saint Stephen's Church in Serpentine is an Anglican church part of the Diocese of Perth's Parish of Serpentine-Jarrahdale. [15] The church's foundation stone was laid by the Bishop of Perth, Charles Riley on 10 May 1913, with the church being consecrated on 6 December 1913. Plans for a stone church in Serpentine dated back to 1885. [16]
Karrakup is a locality southeast of Perth, Western Australia, within the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale. The name derives from the Noongar name for the red-tailed black cockatoo and was adopted as a suburb name in 1997. [2] Karrakup extends east from the town of Byford, along the ridge hill shelf and up over the Darling Scarp.
