Asbury Theological Seminary is a Christian Wesleyan seminary in the historical Methodist tradition located in Wilmore, Kentucky. It is the largest seminary of the Wesleyan-Holiness movement . [ 2 ] It is known for its advocacy of egalitarianism , giving equal status for men and women in ministerial roles and for ordination.
By mid-2024, several more institutes had been accredited at ATS. They included Kairos University which was founded in 2021 by Sioux Falls Seminary, South Dakota, Evangelical Theological Seminary Pennsylvania, Houston Graduate School of Theology Texas and Taylor College and Seminary in Edmonton, Alberta. J. Ellsworth Kalas (February 14, 1923 – November 12, 2015) was a president and a professor of Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky.He also served as pastor for 38 years in the Wisconsin and Ohio Conferences of the United Methodist Church and was associated for 5 years with the World Methodist Council.
He went on to earn a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1979, and a Master of Theology from Princeton Seminary in 1980. In 1982 he received a Master of Philosophy from Drew University and achieved a Ph.D. in Theological and Religious Studies in 1984.

He was President of Asbury College from 1968 to 1981 and 1986-1991 and Chancellor of the school in 1992. Prior, he was a professor of Old Testament Languages and Literature at Asbury Theological Seminary (1963-1968) and a visiting professor at Seoul Theological College, Seoul, South Korea in 1959.
The school offers 50-plus majors across 17 departments. In the fall of 2016, Asbury University had a total enrollment of 1,854: 1,640 traditional undergraduate students and 214 graduate students. [3] The campus of Asbury Theological Seminary, which became a separate institution in 1922, is located across the street from Asbury University.
