Amazon.com: Mitutoyo 7019, Magnetic Base with Hydraulic Position Lock for 3/8 and 8mm Stems, On/Off Switch, 132 Lbf Magnetic Pull: Industrial & Scientific Not cheap, but locks up solid with a light twist of the knob.
The base doesn't have enough power to hold the arm securely on a vertical surface. The base is rated at 1300 N force, which converts to 292 lbs. On a clean machine table, I can get under it with two fingers in a coolant slot and lift it off the table with a little struggle, so I'm estimating it's hold at 50 lbs or so. Here's the noga specs ...
I have a noga magnetic base with the fine adjustment at the top. I like everything about it except that the fine adjustment is pretty finicky to use, especially with .0001 indicators. I originally got this style because the fine at top model had more clamping options. Now I'm wondering if the fine at the base would be more stable and easier to ...
With 85 lbs of pull, this indicator base can mount all AGD indicators as well as test indicators. Both the 110 lbs of permanent magnetic holding power and fine adjustment arm support quality and accurate readings. Featuring the typical and easy on/off switch, the dimensions of this base are 2-1/2” x 2-1/8” x 2”.
It is very unstable and your indicator moves because of the design. The fine adjustment on the top is a good idea but the noga design is bad. Mine has a cable tie on it to keep it stable and it still is not right. Get the fine adjustment on the base. This made me step back and come over here for advice.

I have a couple Noga style indicator stands--both are imports, one is an Insize and the other an even cheaper import acquired from Princess Auto. Build quality of both is really quite good and I love the convenience of how they work but when I use them both seem to be just a bit "springy", for...
If it was packed switched on with no external keeper, it will 'lose magnetic hold'. +1. I had ass u me 'ed that it wudda been properly packed as it was in the original box. But if not .. and lots of time had passed.. plus perhaps non-airconditioned storage.. 07-30-2015, 08:07 PM #10. redlee.
NOGA magnetic bases Noga makes many many many types of magnetic bases, try their web site Dial Indicator Bases Noga catalogs Available Downloads - NOGA Engineering. my Noga is all metal. Many Chinese clones look like a Noga but some have weak magnetics. Some are better but metric (8mm rather than hold 3/8" indicator stem).
In anticipation of having my lathe reassembled soon I have been looking into buying 2 dial indicators and a magnetic base with an arm for holding them. I would like to purchase a plunger style indicator with a 1 inch travel and .0005” graduations as well as a lever style indicator with a .030” travel and .0005” graduations.
