U.S. Route 51 or U.S. Highway 51 (US 51) is a major south–north United States highway that extends 1,277 miles (2,055 km) from the western suburbs of New Orleans, Louisiana, to within 150 feet (46 m) of the Wisconsin–Michigan state line.
Range roads are commonly numbered in 1-mile (1.6 km) increments west from the east range line of a given township. The range roads form the east and west boundaries (known as section lines) of the 1 mile × 1 mile square sections – 36 of which comprise a township (e.g. Range Road 12-2 is between the second and third sections west of Range line 12, Range Road 6-0 is on range line 6).

I-39/US-51 join I-90, making US 51 one of the few toll highways in Illinois that is a U.S. Highway. US 51 exits I-39/I-90 just a mile south of the Wisconsin state line. Then US 51 follows Illinois Route 75 (IL 75) west to the intersection of IL 251, and then turns north through South Beloit, Illinois to enter Wisconsin.

South Carolina Highway 51 Connector (SC 51 Conn.) is a 0.240-mile (0.386 km) connector route that serves to connect SC 51 and US 52. Its entire length is known as Pamplico Highway and is unsigned . It begins at an intersection with the SC 51 mainline (known as West 2nd Loop Road west of here and also known as Pamplico Highway east of here).
State Route 51 (SR 51) is a 114.183-mile-long (183.760 km) state highway in the southeastern and east-central parts of the U.S. state of Alabama. The southern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with U.S. Route 84 (US 84) near New Brockton. The northern terminus of the highway is at an interchange with I-85/US 29/US 280 at Opelika.
The portion of the highway from US 95 to Denio became a gravel road by 1940 and was not fully paved until 1953. [7] [8] The route was realigned near Denio Junction by 1949 (eliminating backtracking through Denio) and the portion between Denio and the California state line had been improved to a fully graveled road by 1952.
