Dewa was formed in 1986 by four students from SMAN 2 Surabaya. The name Dewa is an acronym of the founding members' names: D from Dhani (keyboard, vocals), E from Erwin Prasetya (bass guitar), W from Wawan Juniarso (drums) and A from Andra (guitar). Dewa is also an Indonesian word meaning 'god', or 'deity'.
Ayda's career began after joining the Akademi Fantasia reality show for its ninth season where at a curtain concert held on 2 April 2011, she sang the song Separuh Nafas group song Dewa 19 and Love The Way You Lie song Rihanna. Ayda was eliminated through Operation Fall, in the third week.

He officially joined the band in 2000. Once was eventually accepted by Dewa 19's fans after Bintang Lima, his first album with the group, was a hit; it eventually sold 1.7 million copies. The lack of modern recording studios in Surabaya prompted Dhani to move to Jakarta in 1989 in search of a record deal for Dewa 19. After being rejected by several labels, Dewa 19 was signed to Team Records by Jan Djuhana. Their first album, Dewa 19 (1992), was a huge success with several hits such as Kangen and Kita Tidak Sedang Bercinta Lagi.
Noah released "Separuh Aku" as a single on 3 August 2012 via airplay on 200 radios in Indonesia. It was the first single from Noah's first album Seperti Seharusnya and their first single since Noah announced their new name.
