Stop, You're Killing Me is a 1952 American black comedy film directed by Roy Del Ruth and starring Broderick Crawford, Claire Trevor and Virginia Gibson. [1] The film is set shortly after the Repeal of Prohibition in the United States (1933). A former rum-runner attempts to operate a legitimate brewery, but is soon bankrupt due to poor sales.
The story was remade as Stop, You're Killing Me (1952) with Broderick Crawford and Claire Trevor. On April 8, 1945, Old Gold Comedy Theatre presented a 30-minute adaptation of the story on NBC Radio, starring Edward G. Robinson and Allen Jenkins. [3] On January 24, 1954, it was presented on NBC Star Playhouse, again starring Robinson.
Three of his one-act plays, titled collectively Stop, You're Killing Me were presented by the Theater Company of Boston in 1969. [4] According to author Sean Egan in his biography of James Kirkwood Jr., Ponies & Rainbows, Herlihy co-wrote the play UTBU with Kirkwood but demanded his name be taken off the credits. [5]
