Phenethyl alcohol, or 2-phenylethanol, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C 6 H 5 CH 2 CH 2 OH. It is a colourless liquid with a pleasant floral odor. It occurs widely in nature, being found in a variety of essential oils. It is slightly soluble in water (2 ml per 100 ml of H 2 O), but miscible with most organic solvents.
Chemically, phenyethanolamine is an aromatic compound, an amine, and an alcohol. The amino-group makes this compound a weak base, capable of reacting with acids to form salts. Two common salts of phenylethanolamine are the hydrochloride, C 8 H 11 NO.HCl, m.p. 212 °C, [6] and the sulfate, (C 8 H 11 NO) 2.H 2 SO 4, m.p. 239–240 °C. [2] [9]
2-Methoxyethanol, or methyl cellosolve, is an organic compound with formula C 3 H 8 O 2 that is used mainly as a solvent. It is a clear, colorless liquid with an ether-like odor.
Usually phenol ethers are synthesized through the condensation of phenol and an organic alcohol; however, other known reactions regarding the synthesis of ethers can be applied to phenol ethers as well. Anisole (C 6 H 5 OCH 3) is the simplest phenol ether, and is a versatile precursor for perfumes and pharmaceuticals. [1]
Acetophenone is formed as a byproduct of the cumene process, the industrial route for the synthesis of phenol and acetone. In the Hock rearrangement of isopropylbenzene hydroperoxide, migration of a methyl group rather than the phenyl group gives acetophenone and methanol as a result of an alternate rearrangement of the intermediate:
2-Ethylphenol is an organic compound with the formula C 2 H 5 C 6 H 4 OH. It is one of three isomeric ethylphenols. A colorless liquid, it occurs as an impurity in xylenols and as such is used in the production of commercial phenolic resins. It is produced by ethylation of phenol using ethylene or ethanol in the presence of aluminium phenolate. [2]
Ethyl group (highlighted blue) as part of a molecule, as the ethyl radical, and in the compounds ethanol, bromoethane, ethyl acetate, and ethyl methyl ether.. In organic chemistry, an ethyl group (abbr. Et) is an alkyl substituent with the formula −CH 2 CH 3, derived from ethane (C 2 H 6).
Triphenylmethanol features three phenyl (Ph) rings and an alcohol group bound to a central tetrahedral carbon atom. All three C–Ph bonds are typical of sp 3-sp 2 carbon-carbon bonds with lengths of approximately 1.47 Å, while the C–O bond length is approximately 1.42 Å.
