Sweets for My Sweet is a 1969 album by American recording soul/gospel female group Sweet Inspirations released on Atlantic Records. [1] The album features the groups cover of "Crying in the Rain" which peaked to #42 on Billboards Hot Soul Singles.
In 1963, "Sweets for My Sweet" was released by English Merseybeat band the Searchers as their debut single, reaching No. 1 on the UK Single Chart for two weeks that August. [4] [5] According to Bill Harry, Dusty Springfield considered the Searchers' recording of the song to be "the best record to come out of Liverpool" as of July 1963. [6]
In the meantime "Sweets for My Sweet" establishing the band in the UK, so Philips decided to release 13 more Searchers' tracks from these live sessions. The result was an album named Sweets for My Sweet – The Searchers at the Star-Club Hamburg. The album peaked at number 11 on the German album chart on 5 March 1964. [4]
