A G-Lader supercharger from a Volkswagen Corrado G60. The supercharger housing holds what is called the displacer plate (or just displacer), on both sides of which are spirals, with seals between the latter and the housing. The housing itself also has spirals on both sides that mesh with those on the displacer.
The G60 is a 1.8-litre (1,781 cc) internal combustion engine, from a cylinder bore of 81 mm (3.19 in), and a piston stroke of 86.4 mm (3.40 in). Its cylinder block is constructed from grey cast iron, and its cylinder head is cast aluminium alloy, with additional post-production heat treatment.
The G60 Jet was an economy version for the German market only, thought to be a run out model before the introduction of the VR6. This model was only available in four colours and featured a colour coded interior. Volkswagen could not confirm production numbers for the Jet model. Another variant is Volkswagen Motorsport (VWMS) Corrado 16V G60.
The 16 valve Volkswagen engine is the same as the EA827 series, the only difference being the addition of piston cooling oil squirters, similar to the g60 block but with a 16 valve cylinder head attached. A similar, but larger G60 became available in the Volkswagen Corrado during the early 1990s, and was also available in limited numbers in the Volkswagen Passat and Volkswagen Golf. The G60 won International Engine of the Year [citation needed] when it was introduced in 1989. The "40" and "60" denote the displacer scroll width in millimetres.
