On 25 June 2022, Riveiro was announced as the head coach of the South African suite, Orlando Pirates FC. He then went on to help Orlando Pirates win the 2022 MTN 8 League Cup and the 2022–23 Nedbank Cup, and secured the 2nd spot in the South African Premier Division to qualify for the CAF Champions League in his first campaign.
