The plantation office is located on the first floor of the tower and the inlaid wood ceiling mirrors the shape of the octagon structure of the tower. Each room is spacious and lit by chandeliers of crystal and brass. The side porch, which has an Eden-like view of the garden is screened in. In the south, this is commonly called a “mosquito ...
258 E. Walnut St; Albert Mutschler House, 1910 three-story combination Prairie and Colonial Revival with cut stone foundation, stucco walls (added to wood siding in 1924), clay tile hip roof with three hip dormers, wide eaves, and both double-hung and single paned casement windows. The open porch has groupings of Ionic columns. [3]
The porch has a flat roof supported by six square, beveledged wood columns. Carved wooden, scrolled knee braces support a roof overhang . Spaces between the porch's supporting piers below are closed with wood lattice work. [2] The main entrance is centrally located in a section of the front wall which extends about two feet out from the main wall.
The front façade, on the south, include a Colonial Revival porch and a two-story bay. Two wooden Tuscan columns support porch roof. Above the front door is a rectangular glass transom of beveled and leaded white glass with the house number backed in red. West of the porch is the two-story bay with floor to ceiling windows.
The porch is on all four sides of an octagonal bay with a section that wraps right and which is glassed in. Ornamentation on the house consists of sawn brackets, sawn woodwork in starburst patterns in porch gable and over windows, chamfered columns and sawn wood arches, and small brick arches over windows.
The term column applies especially to a large round support (the shaft of the column) with a capital and a base or pedestal, [1] which is made of stone, or appearing to be so. A small wooden or metal support is typically called a post. Supports with a rectangular or other non-round section are usually called piers.
