The 2016 Algarve Football Cup was a summer football friendly tournament. It was hosted at the Estádio Algarve in the Algarve in Portugal , between the 14 and 16 July 2016. It involved Benfica and Vitória de Setúbal of the Portuguese Primeira Liga and English Championship side Derby County .
The 2009 Taça da Liga final was a football match between Benfica and Sporting CP which was held on the 21 March 2009 at Estádio do Algarve, Faro.It was the final match of the 2008–09 Taça da Liga, the 2nd season of the Taça da Liga, a football competition for the 32 teams in the Primeira Liga and the Liga de Honra.
The Estádio Algarve had previously hosted the Taça da Liga final three times, in 2008, 2009 and 2010. The first one was won by Vitória de Setúbal (after a penalty shoot-out), while the last two were won by Benfica. The Estádio Algarve holds a capacity for 30,002 spectators and was opened in 2004 ahead of UEFA Euro 2004.
The 2008–09 European football season was Sport Lisboa e Benfica's 105th season and their 75th consecutive season in the top flight of Portuguese football.The season ran from 1 July 2008 to 30 June 2009, with Benfica competing domestically in the Primeira Liga, Taça de Portugal and Taça da Liga.
