The Fremantle line is a suburban railway and service in Western Australia that connects the central business district (CBD) of Perth with Fremantle. History

Perth’s passenger rail services were believed to have been in serious decline throughout the 1960s and 1970s with reports of passenger numbers falling as commuters switched from public transport to cars and employment moved out of the central city.

[6] [7] The Fremantle line was closed on 2 September 1979 due to declining patronage, but it was reopened on 29 July 1983 after a public outcry. The network was electrified in the early 1990s, [ 8 ] and the Yanchep line opened on 20 December 1992 as the Joondalup line with three stations operational: Leederville , Edgewater , and Joondalup . [ 9 ]

Fremantle station is the terminus of Transperth's Fremantle line, with frequent services to Perth that continue through to Midland via the Midland line. [ 15 ] [ 16 ] Fremantle station saw 1,481,023 passengers in the 2013–14 financial year.
